Raised in rural Franklin, Wisconsin, Mark Carstensen maintains a deep love for the natural environment of his childhood. As a young man, he worked for a local homebuilder and learned the basics of construction. After several years’ experience in the trade, one employee and a building contract, he formed Mark E. Carstensen Construction in 1980 and built his first home.

As the company grew, Mark’s natural talent for architectural design flourished as well. With each home, he refined not only the company’s construction standards for quality and workmanship but also his ability to make the dreams and wishes of a custom home buyer come true.

In 1992, Mark incorporated a development company to augment the construction company. With both firms working in tandem, Mark began to achieve his vision of transforming rural Franklin into a city while preserving its natural environment.

Mark’s philanthropy reflects his dedication to all of Franklin’s citizens, from young to old. As a charter member of the Franklin Education Foundation, he championed fundraising efforts with their annual golf outing that raised $25,000 in each of the past few years. His service on the Technology Advisory Committee was instrumental in obtaining a $100,000 grant for computer technology for the Middle School. In 1998 he received the prestigious Byron Kilbourn Award sponsored by the Greater Milwaukee Education Trust, in recognition of his company’s role in educating youth. Mark is a personal mentor to students with an interest in the construction industry.

Mark actively volunteers in the community. He sponsors the Family Stage at the annual Franklin Civic Celebration and actively supports the Franklin Education Foundation and its annual fundraising events: the community walk, the golf outing, and the auction and casino night. He served as co-chair of the Franklin Facility Needs Committee, which led the initiative to design and develop a new police facility.

Mark Carstensen’s vision for the City of Franklin is clear and his enthusiasm unmatched. His influence can be seen in residential and commercial construction. He offers his unique talents to help create the "City of Franklin – a community for all people."
